With the help of generous donors, over the past 20 years IPO Foundation has provided scholarships, free curriculum, and events to educate about the importance of IP. There is no fee to attend the three-day virtual celebration rich in content. However, to continue to provide high-quality education and public awareness programming IPO Education Foundation needs the support of your donations and sponsorships! To Increase Diversity in IP, Education is an Internal and External Matter
Education is a vital aspect of increasing diversity in IP, and this education must take place both within IP organizations and in the greater community. Students and their families need opportunities to learn about STEM careers. Within firms and companies, personnel need to learn about barriers that exist and how to combat them. While we are thankful for the diversity we have achieved at Schwegman Lundberg & Woessner, further advances must be made. To encourage dialogue, we are happy to discuss steps we have taken to support this goal. Increased diversity is a need within our community, and our community must work together to make meaningful progress… Read More >

Stroke of Genius™ Season 3 Ends with Bonus Episode
The Stroke of Genius podcast will release the final episode of season 3 Wednesday about the copyright battles in the video game Fortnite. Need to catch up on seasons 1-3? All episodes are available on major podcast platforms like Apple, Spotify, and Google. In case you missed it, this season explored the most pressing questions, fascinating stories, and overlooked marvels from the world of intellectual property.
“This season, the Stroke of Genius podcast has successfully addressed the impact of intellectual property on current events. In addition to episodes on the Covid-19 pandemic and the role trademarks play in the world of sports, Stroke of Genius discussed the impact of violence, civil unrest, and racial injustice on patent applicants of color.” Jessica Landacre, Executive Director
In episode 8, titled “The Right to Invent” Stroke of Genius explored the subject of racial inequality in STEM and innovation with two professionals, Dr. Lisa Cook and Dr. Laitaisia Jones. Dr. Cook had a hunch that although African Americans were “free to invent,” the threat of violence that inventors faced had a direct impact on their ability to engage in the free flow of ideas. Her research on patents filed by African Americans led her to conclusive evidence…evidence that Dr. Jones is living today. As the first African American to earn a Ph.D. within the Department of Biomedical Sciences at Florida State University, Dr. Jones experienced difficulty in completing her studies while witnessing racial injustice all around her. In light of the current environment of police brutality against Black Americans, she decided she needed to create a community to show people of color that there are role models and mentors who are just like them.
